This is a live jazz gig listings service from Jazz in Reading. We feature mostly modern jazz gigs happening within 20 miles or so of Reading.

The listings used to be published monthly, under the name 'Jazz Round About Reading', but all gigs now appear in the calendar, the link for which is below left. Check it out whenever you feel the urge to hear live jazz. Don't forget to refresh your browser each time you visit, to be sure of catching all latest changes or additions. Please check with venues before setting off - all details may be subject to change.

Musicians, promoters and venues should send their gig information to us via the Submit Your Gig form. Please note that the details you submit will be checked and edited before being approved for publication. Vimala is a sensational singer with the same wide ranging skills and tastes as John Etheridge. They are ideal partners, alike in their search for musical adventure and authenticity. John Etheridge has been described by Pat Metheny as ‘one of the best guitarists in the world’, and The Blue Spirits Trio came about through John’s love of electric guitar and organ combined. MOBO nominated musician Rod Youngs celebrates the music of the iconic Blue Note Record label. Rod has established himself as one of the most expressive and versatile drummers on the contemporary music scene. For over two decades his approach to music has covered a wide spectrum of genres while remaining firmly rooted in the jazz tradition. Rod is joined by the incomparable Denys Baptiste, a legend of British jazz and one of the most sought-after saxophonists in the country. With guitarist Artie Zaitz and bassist Larry Bartley.

Lunchtime jazz at the Guildford Institute | The Terence Collie piano trio

The first in a new series of monthly lunchtime trio jazz concerts at Guildford Institute in the heart of Guildford. Lunch is available from 12 to 2pm, and the performance is a single one-hour set from 2 to 3pm. This opening concert features the pianist and composer Terence Collie with Sophie Alloway on drums and Marianne Windham on bass. With sold-out shows in 2024 at prestigious venues like the 606 Club and Pizza Express Jazz Club Terence Collie captivates audiences with his virtuosity and innovative compositions. “Goddess of groove” Sophie Alloway has played drums for all the finalists in the BBC Young Jazz Musician 2024.

“Keith Fairbairn’s Groove Collective featuring Vasilis Xenopoulos” is a band made up some of the best jazz and session nusicians in the country and we play a groove based mix of melodic funky Latin jazz by the likes of Herbie Hancock, Grover Washington, Ray Barretto and many others. The mixture of virtuosic jazz soloists with a very groove heavy rhythm section is the perfect recipe for a great concert. Watch here

New venue! Jazz at The Swan: Andy Kennedy Quartet | Three Mile Cross

The Andy Kennedy Quartet is a contemporary jazz group appearing regularly at gigs in Hampshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire. The band create their own modern interpretations of jazz standards as well as presenting original compositions. They play modern and contemporary jazz standards – from artists such as Herbie Hancock, Joshua Redman, Michael Brecker and Miles Davis – in an energetic and adventurous style.
